New Year's Resolutions

So . . . as I was rinsing split peas I began to feel the weight of the impossible resolution to read a book each week for 2010. Actually just to read 52 books by December 31st. As John said, sounds like a busy month for you. Then I remembered that I revised it to 24 books for 2010 and I felt much better.

Part 2: The Hospital

Disclaimer: This is my personal record of Spencer's birth. It is the short version, and don't be fooled it is not short. Leaving I knew around 1 or 2 am that I could go to the hospital, but decided I could also wait a little longer, and I didn't say anything. Then when I said, "do you think we should?" to Joanne she said, "Yes" and was all about making that happen right then. We arrived at the hospital just after 3, so it was probably a quarter 'til when we left. She said she would follow John and I over and we loaded up the car. I had a contraction on Main Street and it really hurt and I was pretty worried about having more but the second one I pushed on the roof of the car, and it tucked me into my seat and wasn't so bad. The third one was okay, pushing on the roof didn't help so I tried to relax my arms instead and it was short lived anyway. We parked, and I started walking slowly toward the doors. I had a contraction on the sidewa...

Spencer's Birth Part 1: Laboring at Home

Inspired by a beautiful true story a good friend shared with me, I am finally going to sit down and tell you about Spencer's birth. The inspiring author wrote of a home birth that had recently happened a couple days before, and the excitement and energy she emitted into her writing reminded me of the same spark I felt for days after Spencer was born. It was truly a magnificent experience, one that I cannot capture fully into words, and which confuses me to try. I find myself giving to much and too little detail and then writing far too much, boring my readers into blogsearching for another entry from another person to fill their blog reading-appetite. So here goes. This is my official personal copy of my birth story. In many ways it is a journal entry, so I will not apologize for the length or the details, but I'll try not to make you uncomfortable with too personal details. I woke up on Saturday. I had been sure my baby was coming days before and now that it was a weeken...

Which Baby is Which

Thanks to my super cool friend Ashley, I thought this would be fun. Just let me know which one you think is Spencer, and which is Thomas. Let's just pretend this is hard, k?

Blog oh Blog, wherefore art thou Blog?

Once upon a time a newlywed couple perused bookshelves in a well-known bookstore, looking to spend an "employee of the month" giftcard. Walking by the self-help isle, the husband glanced at a few titles before the subject was snubbed by the wife, who viewed all literature as written for enjoyment and self-help books as not written for that purpose. John surprised me by bringing up this experience because I have been reading quite a bit of self help books lately. Enough that I feel guilty blogging because I should be reading or sleeping or more importantly- working on my New Year's goals. I am really excited about the things I'm aiming to do this year and I can't believe January is well on it's way out with all I have set to do. In order to be effective or should I say resolute in my resolutions? anyway, in order to up the odds for my success, I'm reading Eat That Frog. I'm also studying children's sleep by reading The No-Cry Sleep Solution, and...
