Catching Zzz's?

Last night was the first night this week that Thomas didn't cry out in his sleep. He's been wailing, yelling words, and whining. The first time it happened he seemed so distraught- almost in pain- that I ran to him before I could stop myself and scooped him up out of bed and gave him a drink of milk and put him back down. Another night he cried out in a mild wail that tapered off into dreams. He kept doing it though until I went into his room and he didn't seem to see me but was grasping at the blanket trying to put it over his feet. I tucked him in but he never acknowledged me. The rest of the nights he kept his eyes closed no matter how loudly his voice seemed to be awake. Finally we have accepted this new animal, and when he cries John says, "he's asleep" and I go back to sleep too. Afterall, when he is awake, he yells, "Mommy, Mommy, MOMMY! All done!" Last night there were no outbursts, no moans, no cries of desperation. I had my own bou...

cOloRfuL LaNguAgE @#$*&^!!

For the longest time- weeks that is- Thomas has been using the F word . Several times he ran into kitchen to proclaim it loudly and then ran away. Seems almost devious, no? We keep hearing it pop up every once in a while, but we couldn't figure out what he meant by it. T bird can be so matter-of-fact. Well, a couple days ago some adorable cheerleader from Springville HS in very modest shorts came with her mom to deliver this sign. A banner if you will. It heralds attention for the devil who lives below us. (How appropriate.) The cheerleader and cheerleader mother hung the banner above the downstair's window, advantageously an inch above Thomas' reach. That night when John came home Thomas and I greeted him at the porch and Thomas pointed to the sign and said, "F*&%!." This was not the first time he had used this word to describe the school spirit sign. Embarrassed, John's eyes got bigger each time Thomas repeated it until he hauled him into the house. Fi...

The Little Red Mazda that went Beep Beep

Yesterday morning we were rudely awakened by a strangely incessant honking. The beeping sound went off for almost a minute before I asked John what he thought it was. Apparently the groggy husband thought it was his alarm as he began pushing buttons on the little black box beside him. Finally he said, "I can't tell if it's outside or inside." "Definitely outside," I replied. I wanted to call the cops because someone was outside honking and it was incredibly un-thoughtful. What if it woke up my baby? That may be impossible, but it certainly woke me up. John got up and looked out the windows, then decided to grab some clothes. I thought about the treasure hunt to find the source of the persistent beeping and how I would love to participate, if only. If only I were awake at 6am. Or if only I were dressed. If only I could call the cops and go back to sleep instead of actually having to be awake when they finally arrived. Besides by then the sound would...

The Move

In keeping with tradition, now that I am in the third trimester we have moved! Across the street. And we are trying to unpack and "settle in" as MariAnn called it. I hope you are settled in MariAnn, and I hope to feel settled too soon. We are quite satisfied with our relocation decision and I for one am looking forward to decorating the boys room! How fun does that sound? To have two boys? I know, I know, how can I even pluralize boy without some trepidation. Well let me have my fun because I am ready to look on the bright side. No guilty looks at my husband as I enter the house, my arms laden with packages of delightful girly clothes and paraphernalia. No, not yet. I am not ready to spend my lack of fortune on a daughter. Instead I am planning to run around chasing little boys and dirt and wreaking havoc while we are still renting. Quote of the weekend, "Mommy happys?" Thomas is learning to add "s" to words. Yes- we are in the homestretch! ...
