July Soon to be August!

Dear July,
You hold so much for me and yet I don't appreciate you.
Your warmth exhausts and bores me, yet this winter I will miss you.
I have spent my whole summer awaiting your arrival,
and now you are like an old friend who stopped in for a minute
while I was on the phone, cleaning the dishes, eating lunch,
and listening to music
and then you were gone
and I wondered where did you go July?
Next year I hope we get a chance to chat.
Paige

As many of you know, I went to California to see my brother when he came home from his mission and then my family came up here for my Great Uncle Don's funeral. It was nice to see my mom's cousins again. Lucinda is my favorite because she adores me. I don't even know why, but she is such a doll, always giggling and enjoying life.

The next week John and I flew (with Thomas) to Sacramento and we spent the week with John's sisters and had an excellent time with all the kiddos together. It was great to see Thomas with his cousins! We also had excellent timing since John's mom has moved suddenly for her husband Dan to accept a new job at Berkeley.

Thomas learned new words, astonished his Aunts with his outrageous appetite, and learned to love the pool! I was kind of surprised when with his timidity at first, and I figured he'd warm up to swimming eventually, but he waxed confident so suddenly I didn't even know what hit me!

Upon our return to summer in Springville, we planned a trip to Colorado to visit John's Grandma for her birthday. As it turned out fixing our car up for the road was let's just say more akin to buying a car than merely paying for gas. We loved the beautiful drive into Colorado and being spoiled by Grandma Harrison. John and I lost miserably at Phase 10 (we tried not to be too miserable- the chocolate we ate helped) but we had a good time with family.

Now that we are back it seems like July has gone by way too fast, but being a fat pregger woman in summer, the time can keep sailing by, I'm not complaining! Thomas has just celebrated his half birthday, which means the lucky tike got some shots this week at the doctors. I wanted to ask the doctor to do the Hepatitis A shot separately when I read the side-effects, but I didn't have a good reason, since he's had that one before with no problems, and so they gave him all the shots at the same time. Now the poor guy has itchy hives, but he's been really good about it, and only complained once with a frustrated sigh- moan- growl and a big bought of "rub-my-face-as-fast-as-I-can." Other than that he hasn't uttered a peep of complaint. For his next round of shots, I'll have them hold the Hep A for a couple months and do it separately. As per the doctor's recommendation anyway. It's crazy what mother's intuition can give you if you just listen to it!

Granola Recipe adapted from a Smitten Kitchen Recipe

My friend just made these and gave ME some!  I feel so honored!  They were really crispy and clustery- new word?  So I'm sharing them with you.  Love, Paige   6 c. Old Fashioned Oats 2 c. shredded coconut 2 c. Rough chopped Almonds (I pulsed in the food processor 5-6 times) 1 c. Wheat Bran 1 t. kosher salt 1 t. cinnamon Combine all dry ingredients then add these wet ones. Stir until covered. 1/4 c. Olive Oil 1 c. pure maple syrup 3 egg whites  Whip until they are frothy and pour into oat mixture. Stir until combined.  Spread on a lined baking sheet, pressing it down gently. Bake for 40 minutes at 300. Turn large portions of granola like you are flipping a pancake. (trying to keep it clustered) Bake for 15 more minutes at 300. Check to see if its golden brown all over. If there are any patchy spots. Turn the granola one more time and bake for 5 minutes.  Let it cool and crispify on the baking sheet. Enjoy. Or...

A Pregnant Post by Paige about Pregnancy

Here's the belly progression: 6 Months 8.5 Months Warning! This post may contain personal musings about pregnancy. It may read like a journal. It may contain baby excitement and overall feelings of joy. So I have been stepping on things lately. Mostly toys. How is this possible, you ask? Those of you familiar with my adroit walking skills may be puzzled at this point. I know I was until I took a shower this morning. And I couldn't see my feet at all; not a hint of them, no toes, nothing, not even when leaning forward could I see anything but a belly button sun on the horizon of a large earth belly. And that is why I've been stepping on things. Thomas' toy hammer, a plastic giraffe, the zipper of John's coat . . . The loss of my peripheral vision going down is apparently complete. I can't see where I am stepping! What a frightening feeling. I have also been walking into common household objects with my belly. Doorknobs and chairs. Major medial disco...

Myrtle Beach

Recently we moved to Myrtle Beach, SC.  It has been quite the adventure so far, including moving across the country by car and being out of our home for 9 days before receiving our new house keys.  We have been to the urgent care a couple times and the hospital getting a finger glued back together and a forehead stitched up.  We drove between storms of snow and tornadoes, safely arriving in what we Wilsons consider summer weather, but we have been told to wait until July for the real humidity and heat. Our charming house is twenty years old and very cute.  It has kitchen dining and living rooms downstairs and bedrooms up. It was getting a little awkward when we purchased our electric lawn mower online and then waited several days for it to show up. We have made new friends with our culdesac neighbors, church members, and cub scouts. One of our favorite things is our neighborhood pool at the end of our street, six houses down.  We are really happy that Spen...
