Our Big Day

As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world . . . as in being able to remake ourselves.

Mahatma Gandhi

I heard that quote today and I love it! Sometimes that's what I want to hear, I don't have to fix or change the world, just myself!

Today was a big day. Spencer learned to jump for the first time! Only 18 months later than Thomas when he learned, so I'm even more proud of him and grateful that he's not as challenged as I thought.  Just kidding, he's really smart and sweet and obstinate but just not good at talking or jumping.  Or water.

He cracks me up when he says "wonk" for want. Yick, and yocks are shirt and socks. He can't say s or l or r, or g, or ch, and the list goes on and on... So many words are the exact same from him, poor guy. He's always saying done as in again, all done, come, I came, etc.

Although Luke can walk, he can't quite figure out that crawling is supposed to be on your hands and knees, and he army crawls everywhere, even in the bathtub. Today he got up on his hands and knees a few times, and figured out how to push himself back up to sitting from crawling. The fact that he coordinated with Spencer today makes my joy full.

Today Thomas asked never-ending questions about gravity and the strength of metal, bricks, and wood.  I was exhausted by bedtime.  Fortunately he was as well and fell right to sleep.  Unfortunately, he was the only one.  Fortunately, the kids are all sleeping now.  Unfortunately John is working all night.  Fortunately, he gets to work from home all night.

Today I decided to do the Whole30 challenge from these people which means that I only eat meat, vegetables, fruits, and nuts.  No dairy, wheat, or sugar.  It's for a month which can kick start your metabolism back to normal and eliminate some foods that may be irritating you covertly.  I'm excited to do this because I could use more energy.  Who wouldn't want more energy?  I like that it's not a diet and not just because challenge sounds better than diet, but because I will probably always just eat as much as I want and that is encouraged; you just have to eat real food.

Also big news- we are moving to California in a couple weeks to live closer to family and John will be transferring to a different office within his company, Pariveda Solutions.  We finally found a place to rent!  This is big.  It will have a yard.  I daydream of the fun we will have as I shoo the kids outside to play and do my thing whatever-that-is from inside the sliding glass door, occasionally glancing out at them through my happiness fog which will enshroud me as I complete projects, read books, et cetera.

Saturday we went shopping, and walking out of a store,Thomas said,

Mom, it smells like french fries are all around me and in my mouth.

I loved that last quote from Thomas. It made me laugh! I also loved your excitement of having a backyard that kids can go play in :) Good luck with the move!

Baby Spencer!

Spencer David Wilson was born on Monday at 5:42 am, at American Fork Hospital. A few hours later John and I agreed on a name for him at last. He was 7 pounds, 5.2 ounces, and 20 inches long. He has dark fine baby hair. It is so soft! He has a very red complexion compared with Thomas, and a fuller face and darker hair. My mommy has come to take care of me and we are having a great time in spite of having a flu bug which has gotten to several people unfortunately, including my mom and my sister and Thomas, but not John, Spencer, or me. Everyone is on the mend so we are praying for no more sickness! I delivered with the Mt. Timpanogos Women's Health Center and Claudia was my midwife, and Joanne was my doula and Kimmi my nurse. Karyann my sister, and John were also there and it was a great experience to have such a devoted team! I can't begin to tell you what a completely different experience it was compared with Thomas' birth. Everyone was emotionally there as well ...

Sweepstakes! Paige wins MONEY!!!

Don't you love starburst? http://www.starburst.com/ Yes, this is a promotional blog entry because of how much I love my Grandma and Grandpa, Pinatas and, Starburst! Oh, and money. Once upon a time in the summer of 2009, Paige went on a family reunion trip to the middle of nowhere after which reunion John blogged about life preservers on horseback. (Follow links on the right to read John's blog) Before we returned home to the safety of our own life jacket-less lives, we enjoyed a pinata with the cousins. Hiding behind the tree from which the pinata swung violently, I safely would look out for breakage in the pinata and subsequent candy wreakage on the grass beneath. Finally my moment arrived! Among the 20 grandchildren or so present, I dove into the mass of cousin arms and legs and grabbed at all candy visible and invisible (the candy under Colton when he decided to lay on the stash for its protection). I realize now that the failures of my youth to gather pinata can...

Part 2: The Hospital

Disclaimer: This is my personal record of Spencer's birth. It is the short version, and don't be fooled it is not short. Leaving I knew around 1 or 2 am that I could go to the hospital, but decided I could also wait a little longer, and I didn't say anything. Then when I said, "do you think we should?" to Joanne she said, "Yes" and was all about making that happen right then. We arrived at the hospital just after 3, so it was probably a quarter 'til when we left. She said she would follow John and I over and we loaded up the car. I had a contraction on Main Street and it really hurt and I was pretty worried about having more but the second one I pushed on the roof of the car, and it tucked me into my seat and wasn't so bad. The third one was okay, pushing on the roof didn't help so I tried to relax my arms instead and it was short lived anyway. We parked, and I started walking slowly toward the doors. I had a contraction on the sidewa...
